Trumpcare Legislative Process Begins

Trumpcare Highlights

Trumpcare Highlights

On March 6th, the House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee sent off legislation (Trumpcare?) to repeal and replace Obamacare through the “budget reconciliation process.”  A section by section look of this legislation is available in a link at the bottom of this article.  This is the  beginning of the process, but it appears Republicans have reached some type of consensus on key points.

Trumpcare Highlights

  • Mandatory health insurance replaced with a 30% premium surcharge for failure to maintain continuous insurance.
  • HSA contribution limits increased substantially to $6,550 (Single) and $13,100 (Family)
  • Flexible Spending Account limits repealed (employers will establish the plan limit)
  • Subsidies replaced with reimbursable tax credits, of up to $14,000 per family

Meanwhile, in February, California Senator Licardo Lara helps introduce the Health California Act, which threatens to force a California government plan on all Californians

“Every California Resident will have one plan” [press release]

For now, the bill states intent only, no details and no funding. I just hope the finish repairing the Oroville dam, first.
