CHECKLIST: Leaving Employer Insurance and Transitioning to Medicare From Employer Health Insurance<\/h2>\n

  1. First, if you are currently working and receiving employer-sponsored health insurance, do not sign up for Medicare Part B solely because you turned 65. \u00a0Read our related article to\u00a0“Understand what you are getting into<\/a>.<\/strong>“\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>While there are some exceptions, if you work for a large employer (20 or more employees), you don\u2019t need to do this yet.<\/li>\n
  2. Second, those employer plan disclosures e.g.\u00a0Annual Notice of Creditable Coverage<\/a><\/strong> for prescriptions? Don\u2019t throw them away if you are Age 65 or older.\u00a0 <\/span>This could cost you extra money.\u00a0 <\/span>My advice<\/a> is to start a Medicare Preparedness File, and save this article as part of your checklist.<\/li>\n

Third, have a discussion with your primary care physician:\u00a0 <\/span>Ask if they currently accept new patients, especially those on traditional Medicare.\u00a0 Be bold<\/span>, and ask if they plan to retire in the near future. \u00a0<\/span>It\u2019s better to find out sooner than later if you need to research a new primary care physician.<\/li>\n
  4. Fourth, find an independent agent<\/a> who focuses on Medicare health plans\u2026and I mean lots\n
